
Flashes Fall to Bearcats

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Kent State falls to Cincinnati in the season opener this afternoon, 14-7.
In the first quarter the Bearcats came out strong and scored the first goal of the game three minutes in. Quarter one ended with a score of 7-0 in favor of Cincinnati.
Going into the second quarter, the Golden Flashes had two shots on goal while the Bearcats had 10. Kenzie Sklar picked up the intensity for Kent State and scored the first goal of the game as well as the first goal of the 2023 season. Her goal was assisted by Morgan Kubicki. The Golden Flashes defense held the Bearcats to only advance four more goals until halftime.
For the third quarter, Sklar put another goal on the scoreboard for the team. Kent State found their momentum going into the fourth quarter and scored the next five goals of the game, while also leading in shots 7-3. The Bearcats were held scoreless while Jackie Wolford and Zayda Crumpton each scored two goals and Sklar scored her third goal of the game.
Goalkeeper Taylor Monturo played three quarters and made eight saves for the Golden Flashes.
Next up, Kent State travels to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne on Thursday Feb. 16 at 4 p.m.
