Lacrosse travels to take on Duquesne and Butler

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team will take on Duquesne on Thursday Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. and Butler on Saturday Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
About the Flashes
Last week the Golden Flashes faced off against Cincinnati and lost 14-7. After a hard battle in the first three quarters, Kent State had a comeback in the fourth and scored five goals. The Golden Flashes defense and goalkeeper Taylor Monturo held the Bearcats scoreless in the final 15 minutes.
Senior Kenzie Sklar is the current leader of the team with three goals, three points, and six shots on goal. Monturo successfully made eight saves against Cincinnati and leads the team with three total ground balls. Morgan Kubicki had seven draw controls and two assists in the season opener last week.
About the Dukes
On Saturday, Duquesne started the home opener with a 16-10 loss against University of Pittsburgh. The Dukes finished the 2022 season 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Sophomore Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw was named A-10 Rookie of the Year in 2022 and played for the Puerto Rican National Team where they finished among the top 12 in the World Championship. This season, Senior Jillian Caroselli and Sophomore Mackenzie Leszczynski currently lead the team in goals (3) and points (3).
About the Bulldogs
Butler completed last season 6-9 overall and 0-5 in the Big East. The season opener resulted in a one goal loss, 19-18, against Youngstown State.
After Sunday, Freshman Luci Selander is the team leader in points (5). Leah Rubino led the Bulldogs in ground balls (25) and draw controls (53) during the 2022 season. Butler was ranked No. 1 for assists (116) in the conference.
Series History
Over the past two seasons, the Golden Flashes hold a 0-2 record against the Dukes. At the last matchup, the final score was 15-4 at home.
Going back to 2019, Kent State is 0-3 up against Butler. On Feb. 12, 2022, the Golden Flashes lost in a close battle of 11-10. Kenzie Sklar led the offense with six goals, one goal shy of the program record.
