
Lacrosse Home Opener Victory

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team won 15-5 in the home opener against Delaware State this afternoon.
In the first quarter, Lily Miller scored with an assist by Jackie Wolford. Increasing the lead for the Golden Flashes, Zayda Crumpton scored four minutes into the quarter. The Hornets responded with a goal by Siniya Craft taking the score 2-1. With a hard shot on goal inside the circle, Jackie Wolford scored for Kent State. Two minutes later, Wolford scored again with an assist by Morgan Kubicki. Kenzie Sklar scored with eight seconds left in the quarter for a score of 5-1. The Golden Flashes led in shots 14-2.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Delaware State secured their second goal of the game. Shortly after, Allie Lee scored off a turnover from the Hornets goalkeeper. Sklar secured her second goal at 1:10 of the quarter bringing the score at the half 7-2.
Starting off the third quarter, Crumpton and Lee added two more goals taking the score 9-2. Kubicki then shot from in the circle for another Flashes goal. After a green card on the Hornets, Claire Welter secured her first goal of the season. Delaware State successfully scored off a free position shot, bringing the score 11-3. Five minutes remaining in the quarter, Lee scored again securing a hat trick.
In the final quarter, Wolford scored her third goal of the game from the top of the circle. The hornets fought back and scored two goals taking the score 13-5. With an assist by Sidney Dering, freshman Riley Floyd scored her first career goal for the Golden Flashes. To wrap up a Kent State victory, Lee scored her fourth goal of the game, ending regulation at 15-5.
Next up, the Golden Flashes are back home again on Friday, March 10 to take on Saint Francis (Pa.) at 12 p.m.
