Lacrosse victory secures Regular Season MAC Co-Champions

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team claimed a share of the Mid-American Conference regular season title for the first time in program history with an 18-16 win over Youngstown State this afternoon.
Jackie Wolford and Kenzie Sklar combined scored 13 goals. Wolford matched her career high of seven scores and found the back of the net for the go-ahead goal at the 8:10 mark off a pass from Sklar.
The Golden Flashes (10-7, 7-1 MAC) trailed by as many as three goal in the second quarter before fighting back to tie it 8-8. The Penguins were able to secure one more goal right before halftime.
Both teams had seven goals in a high scoring third quarter. Kent State trailed by one heading into the fourth.
Zayda Crumpton scored her second goal of the game to bring the score 16-16 in the start of the final quarter. Wolford scored two back-to-back goals and the Flashes took the lead 18-16 with seven minutes left in regulation.
Goalkeeper Taylor Monturo entered the game in the third quarter and made five saves to earn her first victory of the season. Monturo stopped all three of the Penguins shots on goal in the fourth quarter. Crumpton had a team high of seven draw controls and Peyton Gellin was right behind with six draw controls. Â
The Golden Flashes will be the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and play Central Michigan in the semifinals on Thursday, May 4 at 4 p.m.
