
Flashes win against Saint Francis

SAINT FRANCIS, Pa. - The Kent State lacrosse team (3-6) won, 18-12, against Saint Francis (1-5) this afternoon.
The Flashes took the lead 1-0 in the first quarter with a goal scored by Zayda Crumpton. Peyton Gellin increased the lead 2-0 shortly after. The Red Flashes then scored with 10 minutes remaining. Jackie Wolford and Emily Bond secured goals to pick up the momentum for Kent State. Gellin scored back-to-back goals to record her first career hat trick and bring the score 6-1.
In the start of the second quarter, Saint Francis brought the score 6-3. Morgan Halli and Meghan Haddow both secured their fourth of the season. With 10 minutes left, Flashes led 8-3. Gellin then secured her fourth goal of the game. Haleigh Greenberg scored back-to-back goals, including one off a free position shot. Crumpton scored again before halftime to bring the Flashes up 12-3.
In the third quarter, Bond netted another goal for Kent State. Battling back, the Red Flash secured a goal to bring the score 13-4. Wolford responded by scoring her second goal of the game. Saint Francis found momentum and went on a four goal scoring streak. With only four seconds remaining, Halli scored and brought the score 15-8.
The Red Flash striked first in the final quarter and Wolford scored to secure her seventh straight for the season. Saint Francis tallied on three more goals to bring the score 16-12. Halli and Riley Floyd scored for the Flashes, with the final score resulting 18-12.
Chloe Benadum recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Gellin secured a season high of eight draw controls and Sidney Dering matched her season high of six. Kent State led in shots (33-32) and draw controls (18-16). Sydney Davis made six saves in her first career start in goal.
Up next, the Flashes begin Mid-American Conference play against Youngstown State on Sunday, March 17 at 12 p.m.
