Flashes Head East for Pair of Weekend Contests

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State field hockey team (1-6) resumes MAC conference play on Friday as they head to Farmville, Virginia to face the Longwood Lancers at 1 p.m. The Flashes will then travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to take on ACC foe Wake Forest on Sunday at noon.
About the Flashes
Kent State is riding high after opening MAC play last Friday with the first win of the Hefner era over Ball State. The Flashes were able to shut out the Cardinals to claim a 1-0 victory and begin conference play 1-0. The lone goal of the match was scored by midfielder Eva Usoz. The sophomore has been a consistent offensive presence for the Flashes all season; Friday's goal improved her season tally to two goals, three assists, and seven points, all of which lead the team. Usoz's goal was assisted by Maia Sarrabyrouse, her first assist of the season. Defensively, the Flashes held solid as a team for 60 minutes, limiting Ball State to just one shot on target in the match.
Scouting Longwood
The Lancers enter Friday's match with a record of 3-3. They opened MAC play last Friday with a 2-1 overtime victory over Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant. Longwood then returned home to host no. 15 Syracuse on Sunday, falling 4-0 to the Orange to conclude the weekend. Offensively, the Lancers are led by forward Luna Prieri. The sophomore has four goals this season, including a hat trick against Queens just two weeks ago.
Scouting Wake Forest
The Demon Deacons currently possess a record of 2-5, including three one-goal losses to ranked teams. They opened ACC play last Friday by traveling to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, falling to no. 16 Boston College 4-1. Wake then headed to Lowell for a Sunday afternoon matchup with UMass Lowell, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat. The Deacons have been led up front by Lauren Story. The freshman has a team-high three goals and seven points in just six appearances this season.
The Series
Kent State leads the all-time series over Longwood 11-4. The Flashes have won the last two matchups between the schools, including a 3-1 victory last season in Kent.
The Flashes are 1-8 all-time against Wake Forest. Kent State's lone win over the Demon Deacons came in the first-ever matchup between the schools in 1992. Sunday's match will be the first meeting between the teams since 2006, a 7-0 Wake Forest victory.
