
Road Rivalry Contest Kicks off March for Flashes Women’s Hoops

The Kent State women's basketball team is set to open March with to road contests, beginning with a matchup against rival Akron on Saturday at 12 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (18-10, 10-5 MAC) officially secured their spot in the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Wednesday with a 76-58 victory over Northern Illinois. Kent State outscored the Huskies 47-28 over the final 20 minutes to overcome a halftime for the second time this season. Senior Bridget Dunn recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Dionna Gray nearly joined her and finished with a team-high 14 points and nine assists. Senior Jenna Batsch scored the 1,000th point of her career during the first quarter and totaled 11 to go with six assists and four steals.
Preseason All-MAC First Team selection Jenna Batsch (16.4 ppg, 4.1 apg) is the only player in the conference averaging at least 16 points and four assists per game. Bridget Dunn (8.3 ppg) ranks fifth in the nation in defensive rebounding (8.5 drpg) and 28th overall in rebounds per game (9.9). Mya Babbitt (12.1 ppg) leads the MAC with 73 three-pointers and has made 42.4% of attempts from beyond the arc. Janae Tyler (11.2 ppg) has emerged as a consistent inside scoring presence after missing the majority of the non-conference slate of games. Dionna Gray averages 8.4 points and 5.0 assists per game.
Scouting Akron
The Zips (9-19, 3-12 MAC) have lost 12 in a row and look to avoid the first 20-loss campaign since back-to-back in 2016-17 and 2017-18. Forward Shelbee Brown is the top scorer at 13.2 points per game and ranks fifth in the MAC in rebounding at 8.6 rebounds per game. Guard Alexus Mobley adds 11.9 points per contest.
