
Golden Flashes Travel to Troy for MAC-Sun Belt Challenge Matchup

Kent State takes a break from Mid-American Conference play and visits Troy for a MAC-Sun Belt Challenge matchup on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
The Golden Flashes (15-8, 8-3 MAC) entered Wednesday's road game against Northern Illinois with a five-game winning streak and nearly erased a 22-point deficit in the final five minutes before falling, 73-69. Facing its largest deficit during conference play with 4:22 remaining, sophomore Mya Babbitt and a quartet of reserves made eight consecutive shots for a 21-2 run that made it a 72-69 game with 36.2 seconds remaining. Babbitt finished with a team-high 17 points and was joined in double-figures by senior Jenna Batsch (15), junior Dionna Gray (14) and sophomore Janae Tyler (10).
Preseason All-MAC First Team selection Jenna Batsch (16.4 ppg, 4.0 apg) is the only player in the conference averaging at least 16 points and four assists per game. Bridget Dunn (8.3 ppg) ranks fourth in the nation in defensive rebounding (8.7 drpg) and 25th overall in rebounds per game (10.0). Mya Babbitt (12.1 ppg) leads the MAC with 57 three-pointers and has made 40.4% of attempts from beyond the arc. Dionna Gray averages 8.7 points and 4.7 assists per game while leading Kent State to a 13-5 record in games played this season. Riley Rismiller, a transfer from Dayton, has made an immediate impact with averages of 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Scouting Troy
The Trojans (15-9) are unbeaten this season inside of Trojan Arena, where they average just under 90 points per game. Troy is an outstanding rebounding team and leads the nation in rebounds per game (50.1) and defensive rebounds per game (33.4) while ranking fourth in rebound margin (+11.8) and fifth in offensive rebounds per game (16.7).
Troy is the Sun Belt's top scoring team at 77.8 points per game and has six players who average at least 8.9 points. Forward Zay Dyer averages a double-double with a team-high 12.9 points per game and conference leading 10.6 rebounds per game. Guard Ashley Baez adds 11.1 points per game and has a team-high 41 steals. Guard Briana Peguero (9.7 ppg), guard Shaulana Wagner (9.3 ppg), forward Fortuna Ngnawo (8.9 ppg) and forward Brianna Jackson (8.3 ppg) have also been reliable scorers.
Series History
• Troy won the only previous meeting between the programs, 71-64, in a matchup on a neutral floor as part of the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic on Dec. 20, 2019.
• Kent State led for more than 33 minutes and was outscored 9-0 over the final 50.4 seconds.
• The Golden Flashes are 1-2 all-time in MAC-Sun Belt Challenge contests.
