RADFORD, Va. โ The Kent State lacrosse team hit the road on Wednesday afternoon for a matchup with Radford, the team's final game before their MAC conference slate begins this weekend. The Flashes captured a dominant 20-9 win over the Highlanders to bounce back from a home defeat to California on Monday.
Kent State (4-5) set a new season-high for goals in the impressive win with 20, surpassing their previous high mark of 15 set in a February win over Presbyterian. The Flashes opened the game with purpose, scoring the first 12 goals of the contest within the first 21 minutes. In the run, Lizzie Lundeen scored four goals, Zayda Crumpton and Riley LaVogue each added two, while Riley Floyd, Morgan Halli, Emily Bond, and Meghan Haddow each added goals of their own. Haddow's effort marked her first goal of the season. Radford finally got on the board midway through the second quarter to make the game 12-1, before a Haleigh Greenberg goal wrapped up the first-half scoring at 13-1.
Radford opened the second half with intent, rattling off three consecutive goals to cut into the Kent State lead. A late third quarter goal by Kenzie Gash slowed the Highlander run as the game's penultimate period ended 14-4. Radford continued to capitalize on their momentum as the final period began, scoring five unanswered goals in the opening five minutes of the fourth quarter to pull the score to 14-9. After a timeout, the Flashes responded by scoring the final six goals of the game. Riley Floyd added two more goals to complete her hat trick, Halli and Haddow each added their second goal of the game, while Megan Cook and Eva Searle also each found the back of the net, marking Searle's first goal of her collegiate career.
Six Flashes ended the match with multiple goals, led by four from Lundeen. Crumpton led Kent State with three assists, while Halli and Allie Lee each added two. Crumpton also led the Flashes with ten draw controls as Peyton Gellin had a team-high three caused turnovers. In goal, Ella Gravitt led Kent State with five saves and Sydney Davis was awarded the win with just one goal allowed in 25 minutes of action.
Kent State returns to action on Sunday, March 16, as they head to Mount Pleasant to face Central Michigan in their MAC opener. Opening draw is set for noon.
