Kent, OHIO - The Golden Flashes will return to the field inside Dix Stadium for the second time in four days on Tuesday morning as they take on the Florida State Seminoles of the Atlantic Coast Conference for an 11 A.M. start.
Last Time Out
The Kent State Lacrosse team honored their senior class for their four years with the program on Senior Day Saturday against the Robert Morris Colonials. RMU was able to pull away from the Flashes in the second half to win by a score of 8-5.
Seniors Lizzie Lundeen and Zayda Crumpton scored the first two goals for the blue and gold to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second quarter.Â
The next quarter made the difference in the contest as the Colonials took a lead that they would not give up for the rest of the game from a 4-1 frame. RMU outscored the Flashes 3-2 in the second half to come away with the three-goal win at Dix Stadium.
Leading the way offensively for the Golden Flashes was junior Morgan Halli with two goals while senior Riley Floyd also scored a goal. Lizzie Lundeen and senior Emily Bond also contributed assists for KSU.
On the defensive end, seniors Meghan Haddow and Cameron Meek each caused three turnovers while Haddow and Meek also picked up three and two ground balls respectively. Junior Sydney Davis had another good day in the cage as she came away with 10 saves, which was enough to put her over the 300-mark for her career.
Scouting Florida State
In their first season in program history, the Seminoles have produced a record of 3-11 so far this season, but with a tough conference and non-conference schedule. They also played two close games with top-25 teams leading up to Tuesday's match-up. Louisville is the lone common opponent with the Flashes this season as FSU lost to the Cardinals by a score of 15-5.
Sophomore Meg Kenny and redshirt freshman Summer Harrell lead the team in goals this season with 23 and 22 respectively. Kenny also leads the team in assists with 10 on a team-leading 33 points.
Leading the team defensively for the Seminoles will be senior Superia Clark who comes into Tuesday's game with 19 caused turnovers on the season while Erin Schaefer leads the team with 28 ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Ward leads FSU in saves with 58 this season.
Series History
Both teams will meet up for the first time ever as this year is the first official season for the Florida State Seminoles as a program. However, Florida State Head Coach Sarah Tisdale has a familiar history with the Flashes and the rest of the MAC with head coaching stops at both Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan.
Up Next
After Kent State's penultimate home game of the season against the Seminoles, the blue and gold will return to Mid-American Conference play when they pay a visit to Detroit Mercy on Sunday for a 1 P.M. first draw.
