
Flashes Drop Season Opener Against Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team (0-1) opened its sophomore season with a 22-11 loss at the hands of in-state rival Ohio State (1-0) at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Abby Jones scored five goals in the season opener, while Madison Rapier posted her second career hat trick.
The Flashes bolted out to an early 3-0, scoring all three goals in the first four minutes of action. Rapier recorded the first goal of the 2020 season and Jones supplied the next two.
Ohio State stormed back to take a 4-3 lead before Jones scored her third of the game and freshman Kenzie Sklar recorded her first career goal to give the Flashes a 5-4 lead.
The Buckeyes took the lead back and ran away with it, outscoring the Flashes 18-6 over the last 45 minutes of action.
Megan Kozar tallied her first goal of the season, while freshman Allison Kortowich recorded her first career goal.
Ohio State was led by Sophie Baez who record six points (4g, 2a). Senior goalkeeper Jill Rizzo added eight saves for the Buckeyes.
The Golden Flashes return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15, as they travel to Moon Township, Pa. to take on Robert Morris.
