KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's lacrosse team (3-6, 2-2 MAC) fell to Central Michigan (5-5, 3-1 MAC) after a late comeback effort fell short at Dix Stadium.
The two teams battled back and forth early, alternating goals in the early minutes. After Central Michigan took a 5-2 lead, Morgan Kubicki and Madison Rapier scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to one and force a CMU timeout.
The Chippewas ended the first half on a 5-0 run and scored the first three goals of the second half to extend their lead to 14-5. On the brink of going down double digits, the Flashes fought back. Kent State went on to score eight of the next 11 goals to cut the lead to four, 17-13, largely in part to Rapier's team-high four goals and program record nine draw controls. Despite the second-half rally, the Golden Flashes couldn't quite catch CMU.
Megan Kozar, Abby Jones, and Allison Kortowich each recorded two goals for the Flashes. Josie Helling added a goal and two assists, while Kozar added a career-high three assists. Graceyn Dean caused three turnovers to lead the Golden Flashes on defense.
It was a historic afternoon for CMU's Natalie Karlen, who became the first Chippewa in program history to record 200 career points. Along with that milestone, Karlen recorded a program record 13 points and a program record 10 goals.
