Flashes fall to George Mason in home opener

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State lacrosse team (0-2) fell to George Mason (3-0) this afternoon in the home opener.
The Patriots struck first with back-to-back goals five minutes into the first quarter. Jackie Wolford put the Flashes on the board with a man-up goal. To tie the score 2-2, Emily Bond secured a goal. George Mason tallied two more goals before the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, Wolford scored her second goal of the game to bring the score 6-3, while shortly after Bond recorded another goal as well from a free position shot. At the half, the Patriots led in shots on goal (11-7) and ground balls (9-1).
Freshman Haleigh Greenberg secured her first career goal in the third quarter, to bring the score 8-5, with an assist by Zayda Crumpton.
George Mason led 12-5 with three minutes left. Crumpton scored a free position goal for the Flashes shortly after. The Patriots recorded one more goal with less than a minute remaining to win 13-6.
Goalkeeper Taylor Monturo made nine saves and faced 22 shots.
Up next, the Flashes travel to take on Delaware State on Friday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m.
