WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Kent State women's lacrosse team participated in their second contest of the 2025 season on Sunday, closing out a two-game weekend road trip to open the new campaign. After starting 1-0 with a 13-9 win at George Mason on Friday, the Flashes fell to George Washington by a score of 13-6 for their first defeat of the season.
The Flashes fell behind early as the Revolutionaries successfully converted their first attack just two minutes into the game to grab an early 1-0 lead. It took Kent State just four minutes to respond, as Zayda Crumpton continued the hot start to her junior season to knot the score at one apiece. Following six minutes of scoreless action, the two teams exchanged goals within 42 seconds, with Haleigh Greenberg finding the net for the Flashes, before George Washington found the net twice in the final 80 seconds of the first quarter to build a 4-2 lead heading into the second period of play.
George Washington continued to build on a strong end to the first quarter, striking first in the second to improve their advantage to three goals. The Flashes responded to this adversity with strength, tallying two goals in quick succession via Morgan Halli and Katlyn Binnix, who scored the first goal of her collegiate career, to cut the Revolutionary lead to 5-4. Kent State was able to complete the second quarter comeback as Megan Cook scored her first goal of the season to equalize the contest at five goals apiece with four minutes remaining in the first half. The Flashes grabbed their first lead of the game with three minutes remaining in the first half as Crumpton found the back of the net for the second time of the day to make the score 6-5 in Kent State's favor at the half.
After surrendering a three-goal lead in the second quarter, George Washington responded emphatically in the third, outscoring the Flashes 4-0 in the period. The Revolutionaries notched three goals in the opening eight minutes of the second half before once again finding the back of the net with 28 seconds remaining in the quarter to bolster a 9-6 lead over the Flashes heading into the fourth quarter.
The beginning of the final period of play followed a similar script to the opening three quarters as George Washington fired home two goals in the opening four minutes of the fourth quarter to expand their lead to 11-6. The Revolutionaries tacked on two more goals in the final four minutes of the contest as it ended with a final score of 13-6.
Ella Gravitt concluded the game with nine saves after playing the whole contest between the pipes as the Flashes fall to 1-1 on the young season.
The Flashes will hit the road one more time before their 2025 home opener, as they head to Mercyhurst on Sunday, February 16, at 1 p.m. The team's inaugural home contest is set for Thursday, February 20, at 4 p.m. in Dix Stadium against Presbyterian.
