AKRON, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team continued their 2025 campaign on Thursday with the first "home" game on the schedule against Presbyterian, although the contest was played at Akron's Stile Fieldhouse due to inclement weather. The Flashes posted an emphatic 15-5 victory to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
The Flashes fell behind early, as the Blue Hose found the back of the net less than a minute into the game. Kent State wasted no time responding, as Lizzie Lundeen found the net about 30 seconds later off of an assist from Haleigh Greenberg to get the Flashes on the board. The due connected again with four minutes remaining in the opening quarter to give Kent State its first lead of the game at 2-1. The teams traded goals in the final two minutes of the first quarter, with Lundeen securing a first half hat trick on an unassisted goal, to head to the second period with a 3-2 scoreline in the Flashes' favor.
The second quarter saw Kent State really take control of the game as they outscored the Blue Hose 4-1 in the period. After seven scoreless minutes, the Flashes opened the quarter with three consecutive goals in a 90-second span. Greenberg grabbed a goal to go with her two first-quarter assists on a pass from Peyton Gellin. Gellin then added two unassisted goals of her own to improve the Kent State lead to 6-2. Following a Presbyterian goal, Kent State would find the back of the net once again in the final minute of the half through the stick of Lundeen, who grabbed her fourth goal of the game, to reinforce a 7-3 halftime advantage.
The Flashes continued their dominance in the third quarter, holding Presbyterian scoreless while adding four goals to their advantage. Riley Floyd opened the half with her first goal of the season off of an assist by Anna Zucconi. A few minutes later, Lundeen added her fifth goal of the game on an unassisted effort to secure her second five-goal performance in just three games this season. Katlyn Binnix found the net just eight seconds later for her second goal of the season before an unassisted Morgan Halli effort wrapped up an impressive third quarter which saw the Kent State lead expand to 11-3.
Similar to the second quarter, Kent State opened the final period of play with three consecutive goals. First, Emily Bond scored her first goal of the season through a Megan Cook assist. This was followed by Halli's second unassisted goal of the game before Riley LaVogue scored the first goal of her collegiate career to give the Flashes a game-high 11-goal lead at 14-3. Floyd found her second goal of the game with three minutes remaining sandwiched between two consolation goals by Presbyterian as the contest ended 15-5 in Kent State's favor.
In goal, Syndey Davis played all 60 minutes for the Flashes, tallying six saves in the contest. The Flashes were led in draw controls by Sidney Dering, who gained possession for Kent State seven times in the game. Dering and Cook each led Kent State in groundballs with three apiece.
The Flashes will return to action on Sunday, as they are set to host new Big 12 foe Cincinnati at Dix Stadium at 3 p.m.
